JULIANNE MURRAY ANNOUNCEMENT – SEPT 16, 2021

Good Afternoon to all of you here in person and those of you watching on social media! I thank you for taking the time to join me as we begin a very important quest – to make the streets and neighborhoods all over Delaware safe again.

I am Julianne Murray and I am here today, to announce that I am running to be Delaware’s next Attorney General. I am running because people across Delaware across party lines have been contacted me and urged me to run for Attorney General. They believe as I do, that Delaware needs an Attorney General, not an Activist General.

Delawareans want an Attorney General who will work with law enforcement to keep violent criminals off the streets. They want an Attorney General who will protect their rights and freedoms, rather than attempt to take them away and impose a ‘woke agenda’. Delawareans want an Attorney General who will work for them and not the special interests. I am that person.

Our current “Activist” General views law enforcement as the problem, not criminals. Last year, the Delaware State Troopers Association, the Delaware Fraternal Order of Police, and the Delaware Police Chiefs Council in a letter of no confidence all denounced the AG Kathy Jennings for her failure to prosecute violent protestors. They said her actions made police officers less safe, incapable of doing their jobs effectively, and made our communities less safe. The letter said, “we are left with an Attorney General’s Office that not only encourages and condones violent behavior but justifies and excuses it.” This letter went on to say “It is truly a dark day when Delaware’s Supposed “Top Cop” is willing to ignore her responsibilities and oath of office to try to garner political favor. This letter was sent, as Wilmington was seeing a 50% increase in murders.

It is extraordinarily sad that our police have no confidence in the person who is supposed to be the top cop.  This has to stop!

Our ‘Activist’ General politicized the office by not prosecuting violent protestors. The officers at the scene AND her own Deputy Attorney General reviewed the probable cause and advised which charges should be placed and she overruled them.

 
Think of the message that was sent to the criminals. And we are seeing the results. Murders right here in Wilmington are up 50% from last year. As of August 29, there have been 318 aggravated assaults right here in Wilmington. People are scared to walk the streets. They are afraid to drive to Wilmington. The message that has been sent is Delaware is open for crime. Well I have a message for the criminals, when I am an Attorney General, I will be tough as nails and prosecute you to the full extent of the law and reclaim the streets.

When I am Attorney General, I will work with law enforcement to keep our communities safe and violent criminals off the streets. I will stand with the men and women in blue and let them know they have an Attorney General who has their backs! I will oppose any effort from the ‘woke’ activists to defund and abolish the police. I view the men and women in blue, and all first responders as true Delaware heroes.

I side with the victims of crime, not the criminals.

The Office of Attorney General is not the place for social experiments, it is the place to enforce the law. But Kathy Jennings doesn’t get that. Let’s look at what she said was top a priority of hers back in February – ending cash bail. Let’s ask New York City how well that has worked for them. Even far-left California voted against that idea.

So – while our ‘Activist General’ won’t prosecute violent criminals and wants to make it easier for them to be out on the streets, who does she want to target? Legal gun owners by going after their guns and banning their ability to carry their legal weapons. Think about it, don’t prosecute violent criminals, let them out on our streets and then hinder police and law-abiding citizens from being able to protect themselves against violent criminals. That is the Kathy Jennings’ agenda.

Delaware cannot afford four more years of ‘Activist’ General Kathy Jennings. We cannot afford four more years of politics as usual and using our state as a social experiment. It is the same old tired politicians and social activists who have created the situation that we face today. They can’t be trusted to find the real solutions that we need as a state.

 
As your next Attorney General, I will work for you the people of Delaware. I will

• Support law enforcement and oppose all attempts at defunding and abolishing the police

• Prioritize public safety in Delaware by combatting crime and ensuring that criminals are prosecuted

• Treat law-breakers equally – ensuring equal justice for all citizens

• Obey the Constitution and uphold the rule of the law

• Prosecute! Especially gun crimes

• Keep politics out of the job

• Ensure that justice is blind and nonpartisan

 In closing, I want to make 3 very important points:

1.  My criticism is of the Attorney General herself – not the entire Department of Justice. I have had the privilege and honor of working with some excellent prosecutors who want to keep Delaware safe. The message from the top is the problem.

2. I am committed to this race and, if elected, to work the entire term. The 2024 Governor race is off the table if I am elected. There is so much to be done to make the streets safe again – there is no way I would consider not fulfilling the full term.

3. This is going to be a team effort. Delawareans have to put politics aside and work together as a team to make this happen. That’s why we are calling it Team Murray. Teams work because everyone contributes. This is NOT a solo effort.
